FOREWORDS | Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hubert Esser 8 T he Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is a centre of excellence for research related to the progres- sive development of vocational education and training (VET) in Germany. BIBB identifies future challenges in VET, stimulates innovation in national and international VET systems, and devel- ops practice-oriented solutions for both initial and continuing vocational education and training. In recognition of the crucial role which vocational education and training plays for the economic strength of Germany, the research, development and advisory work carried out by the BIBB provides important founda- tions and innovative impetus for the further development of a modern and effective training system. Over the years, the BIBB has kept on address- ing thematic focuses like strengthening dual training, securing access to recognized vocational education and training for everyone, the permeabil- ity of vocational and academic education and the expansion of continuing training. Cooperation with international partners is continually accorded a high degree of significance. The BIBB department “Internationalisation of Vocational Education and Training/Knowledge Management” com- prises amongst others the “German Office for International Cooperation in Vocational Education and Training” (GOVET) and a division for the “International Marketing of Vocational Education” (iMOVE). In particular with these operation units, the BIBB provides specialist assistance for international VET cooperation and for interested parties from abroad seeking to access German VET expertise. For many years now, the BIBB and the Didacta Association have been partners in creating favorable conditions for the internationalisation of Ger- man training provisions and supplies. The BIBB also supports the Didacta Association’s efforts to strengthen the German training sector and to facilitate international business relations by publishing this export cata- logue. The information enclosed provides a most welcome opportunity for German training providers to make contact with potential partners worldwide. In this regard, I wish the catalogue many interested readers and the Didacta Association continued success in their work both now and in the future.
